Client notes
Applied Knowledge Research and Innovation Ltd. was formed by Dr John L Gordon when Blackburn College withdrew support from their Research and Development department, the Applied Knowledge Research Institute in 2005.
The new company specialises in mapping organisational knowledge resources using Knowledge Structure Mapping and has built on previous work with companies such as Rolls Royce and BAe to secure contracts with Airbus.
Design brief
AKRI wanted to initiate a separation of the business facing content from the more academic based material their old site at http://www.akri.org. They also required the ability to edit their own content without the necessity of learning how to use web design software such as Dreamweaver or employ a full time web developer.
Development notes
The site was implemented using MODx, an opensource content management system hosted on a new domain at http://www.akri.co.uk. MODx is totally customisable and so was relatively straightforward to develop a W3C compliant template to act as the user interface.
Dr John L. Gordon of Applied Knowledge Research & Innovation Ltd says...
"A good service with highly creative ideas and guidance during the design phase. Also offered plenty of opportunity to review before going live."
